1978 Citroen 2CV

The Citroen 2CV was conceived by Pierre Boulanger, who was vice president of Citroen. After WWII, Pierre wanted a car that a French farmer could use to bring his fresh produce to the local markets. Many of the rural roads in France in the 1940s were still dirt, and a farmer would use a horse and buggy to transport his produce to the market.

Citroen was an independent car company until 1934 when it was bought by Michelin. The company was founded in 1919 by Andre Citroen. In 1934 Citroen was the first company to produce a front-wheel-drive car, the Traction Avant, which had four-wheel independent suspension and was unit-body construction. The 2CV is a front-wheel-drive car.

The 2CV made its debut at the 1948 Paris Auto Show. The term “2CV” refers to two taxable horsepower.…
