“WARREN, Mich. — The Hollywood stars in ‘Days of Thunder’ may set movie fans’ hearts racing. But for automobile enthusiast, the heartbeat of Paramount Pictures’ new movie is a Motown star called Lumina.

“‘Days of Thunder,’ a motion picture about a driver, his car and the will to win in NASCAR stock car racing, stars Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid and Nicole Kidman.

“Chevrolet’s Lumina coupe earned its movie role by compiling the winningest record on NASCAR’s Winston Cup stock car racing circuit since replacing Chevy’s Monte Carlo SS last May.

“The authenticity of ‘Days of Thunder’ is underscored by the fact that the No. 46 City Chevrolet Lumina raced by lead character Cole Trickle in the movie was actually driven to a second-place finish in the 1990 Busch Clash race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway by NASCAR driver Greg Sacks.
