1941 Oldsmobile Dynamic Cruiser

The 1941 Oldsmobile had a new body design that was smoother and less bulky looking than the 1940. Beginning in 1939 Oldsmobile went to a numbered series of models starting with 60. Seemingly wanting to confuse people, each series in the Oldsmobile lineup — 60, 70, and 90 — was given a name as well — Special, Dynamic, Custom Cruiser.

Another layer of complexity on top of this was any Oldsmobile could be ordered with either the six- or eight-cylinder engine. 

The “Series 66” denoted a Special with a six-cylinder engine and “Series 68” indicated a Special with the optional eight-cylinder engine. Any series ending with an “8” indicated the Olds had the 257 cid eight cylinder engine. The top of the line 90 series came with the 257 cid eight-cylinder engine and thus was called the “98.”

The two engines available for the Oldsmobile were the standard 238 cid/3.9 liter six-cylinder 100 HP and the optional 257 cid/4.2 liter eight-cylinder 110 HP. The 257 cid engine was standard on the 98.

The five series for 1941 were the Series 66 and 68, which had a 119-inch wheelbase, and the series 76,78, and 98, which rode on a 125-inch wheelbase. The chassis was a  rigid X-frame with outside side rails.
