UK-based auto supplier investing $8M in South Carolina

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) _ Officials say a United Kingdom-based automotive engineering company is expanding operations in South Carolina with a new facility though an $8.2 million investment.

State officials told news outlets Thursday that VTL Precision will invest the money in the new site in Goose Creek. It will join the company’s existing operations in North Charleston and create 10 jobs.

VTL Precision makes engines, transmissions and other car parts. It’s a venture of VTL Group, a privately-owned company with manufacturing sites also in Europe and India. The company’s headquarters are in Huddersfield, England, with customers including Toyota and Mazda.

VTL Group Chief Operating Officer Chris Elliott says the expansion shows VTL’s more than 11-year commitment to serving automotive suppliers from a South Carolina base.

Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib says the city welcomes the expansion.
