BMW to add 200 workers in latest expansion at S.C. plant

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ BMW will hire 200 workers and expand the stamp shop at its Spartanburg County factory, executives said.

Robert Engelhorn, BMW Manufacturing president, announced the expansion Wednesday during the South Carolina Automotive Summit.

The expansion brings the total investment by BMW to almost $12 billion since the company announced it would build a factory near the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in 1992, The State newspaper reported. The company says 11,000 people work at the plant now after five major expansions.

The company says the stamping shop, which produces components for BMW X models, will be operational in summer 2024.
