Just weeks away from its 50th anniversary, a San Diego-area collision center endured the worst crisis in its history when a 1,000-year flood inundated the thriving business on Jan. 22, destroying several customer cars and inflicting more than $50,000 in shop damages.

“It was just a big rushing wall of water coming under the doors and rising up on the walls,” said Southland Auto Body owner Vicky Haye, who started working at the shop at 141 W. 18th St. in National City when her grandfather opened it five decades ago.  “It came so fast and was filled with so much debris, there was nowhere for the water to go.”…
