What do old racers do when they no longer race? Some simply go to the house and dust their trophies while others find new endeavors like broadcasting. Then there are those who learn to play golf or go fishing. 

Mark Fulks Sr., who readily admits that he is not very good at fishing or golf, quit racing at the ripe old age of 18 and went back to work in his father’s garage. Ken Fulks was a drag racer and a well-known garage owner in and around Nashville, Tenn. Fulks started working for his father at 13 and worked there beyond high school. While working at Ken’s Auto Service, Fulks learned the “mechanics” of being a mechanic and the importance of customer service.   

Under his dad’s tutelage, Mark learned all the basics of the business, including how to drive the company wrecker. He recalls being sent out to retrieve customers’ cars at age 14 while one of the shop’s mechanics rode shotgun. When he asked his dad why he had to have a mechanic with him, Ken Fulks replied …
