FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) __ FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) __ AutoNation Inc. (AN) on Friday reported third-quarter net income of $243.7 million.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company said it had profit of $5.54 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.42 per share.
The auto retailer posted revenue of $6.89 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $6.69 billion.
AutoNation shares have increased 22% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P`s 500 index has climbed nearly 8%. The stock has risen 27% in the last 12 months.
