DETROIT (AP) _ Nissan is turning over a new Leaf with the latest version of the world’s top-selling electric car.
The company is adding 43 miles to the Leaf’s range, bringing it to 150 miles per charge. It’s also cutting the price by $690 to just under $30,000.
But the range is still shy of Tesla’s Model 3 and the Chevrolet Bolt, both of which are more expensive but can go more than 200 miles per charge.
The 200-mile mark is considered by many industry experts as the range needed to ease driver fears that they’ll run out of juice before ending their trips.
But Nissan says a Leaf under $30,000 before a $7,500 federal tax credit is important to customers. The company says a 200-mile Leaf likely will come out in another year.
